Poetry

We all know what poetry is, or do we? What’s written under this tab are works from a novice poet 🙂 Poetry isn’t what I thought — rhyme and meter working together to form a sing-song flicker off the tongue while telling a story. No. That may be chorus and verse for songs, but not poetry. Poetry, isn’t a song, although songs can be poetry. Neither does poetry tell a story like a narrative, though poetry does sometimes tell a story. Confused? Join the club. Poetry isn’t intended to be forthright. A good poem, as I’ve been told, gives you clues to make you feel a certain way or to think about a topic. The interpretation is filtered through the reader. If I were good at poetry, I’d write this page in such a way as to make you feel a certain way about poetry and to cause you to pause and contemplate why each word were chosen and what I was trying to convey. But then again, I’m not a good poet … yet.
