Second Chance

A harsh clang boomed with finality, rattling cold metal bars.

There was no escape.

Trapped like a caged animal, the man paced the small room.

Time ticked.

There was nothing to do but wait, forever, and pace.

Dreams, once bright, squirmed to hide beneath a sea of regret.

Alone, anger flushed through his cheeks.

He buried his head in his hands and wept.

The rattle of keys caught his attention.

He heard a distant familiar sound

Feeling a soft pressure on his chest, he heard the cat’s ‘meow.’

A cold sweat formed on his brow as he wiped the tears from his eyes.

Awash with relief, he knew what to do.

Thankful for a second chance.
